Ontario Connecting Over 23,000 People to Primary Care Teams in London Area, Lambton, and Chatham-Kent

April 18, 2024

The Ontario government is investing nearly $6.4 million to connect over 23,000 people to primary care teams in the London area, Lambton, and Chatham-Kent. This is part of Ontario’s $110 million investment to connect up to 328,000 people to primary care teams, bringing the province one step closer to connecting everyone in Ontario to primary care.

“Our government is making record investments to ensure everyone who wants to have a primary care provider can connect to one,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “While there is more work to do, giving thousands of more Ontarians in the region the opportunity to connect to primary care brings us that much closer to this goal.”

Ontario Moving Ahead with Plan to Build More Modular Homes

Market sounding to help build more modular homes in Ontario, including on government surplus lands

April 24, 2024

Rob Flack, Associate Minister of Housing, released the following statement:

“As part of our government’s continued action to cut red tape and help more Ontario families find a home to own, we are moving forward with the next steps in our plan to build more modular homes.

Modular housing will be an important part of the solution to Ontario’s housing supply crisis by building high-quality homes of all types that are manufactured at scale off-site, providing the opportunity to build more homes faster and at a lower cost. We intend to learn more about how modular construction can fit into our province’s housing supply so we can help more Ontario families find a home to own that meets their needs at a price they can afford.

Ontario Chamber of Commerce President & CEO issues statement of concern over capital gains tax increase

"The federal government’s increase to the capital gains tax inclusion rate has sparked significant concerns within our business community at a time of declining business confidence, investment and productivity. The government’s populist messaging misses the point: the primary concern is not about business owners who are wealthy today; it’s about those who are scaling, striving and seeking investment for tomorrow. Canada should be making it easier, not harder, to attract investment, and to retain capital and talent. We reject the false choice that this is the only way to pay for housing and other priorities. We urge the government to channel the capital-gains furor into a bigger conversation: How can Canada’s tax system incentivize investments in business growth and innovation, which are essential to jobs, the economy and our quality of life? It’s time for tax reforms to streamline the system, stimulate business investment, and facilitate the scaling up of small and medium-sized enterprises. To complement this, the government should also undertake a spending review to find economic efficiencies and maximize the value of taxpayer dollars. Canada’s tax system isn’t focused enough on helping our businesses grow. Let’s use this moment to change that."

- Daniel Tisch, President & CEO, Ontario Chamber of Commerce

Bank of Canada Holds Interest Rates at 5% for the Sixth Consecutive Time

The Bank of Canada announced that it would maintain its policy rate at 5% for the sixth consecutive time, a decision that was widely anticipated.
