Natural Resources and Forestry
FOLK COUNTY – The Ontario government is investing $7.5 million over three years to help keep municipalities safe from the risks associated with old and inactive oil and gas wells. The funding will be used by municipalities to enhance emergency preparedness within their communities and prevent emergencies. This investment is the next step in the province’s $23.6 million action plan to tackle the challenges related to legacy oil and gas wells.
“We heard from municipalities across Southern Ontario that they need help addressing the complex challenges related to inactive oil and gas wells in their communities”, said Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry. “This investment will help municipalities like Norfolk County build capacity through training and the acquisition of equipment, which will increase their understanding of risks and help to mitigate those risks.”
Ontario and Indiana Sign Agreement to Boost Trade and Investment
New agreement identifies key sectors for cooperation
Today Ontario and Indiana finalized a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote increased trade, attract investment and continue to collaborate in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, life sciences, automotive and advanced manufacturing.
The MOU was signed by Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, and Eric Holcomb, Governor of Indiana, at a ceremony at the Ontario Legislature. The leaders were joined by Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, and Ann Lathrop, Chief Strategy Officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
“Ontario and Indiana have always been great partners and this agreement is a tremendous opportunity to further strengthen our economic ties,” said Premier Ford. “As the world continues to face economic uncertainty, it has never been more important to build strong partnerships with other jurisdictions to boost trade, attract investments and create good-paying jobs.”

Mental health promotion is the process of enhancing an individual’s capacity to increase control over their lives and improve their mental health. Mental health promotion is not just about focusing on risk factors for mental illness but seeks to create and support environments that enhance positive mental health. Promoting mental health requires that mental and physical health be considered together, not independently, as “there is no health without mental health.”
In workplaces, mental health promotion strategies can help organizations achieve their potential by promoting employee health. This may include activities, initiatives, and/or policies developed to continually enhance the well-being of all working populations. It is important to remember that results don’t happen overnight; but a commitment and dedication to implementing mental health promotion strategies can result in a positive change.
