Ontario Welcomes $358 Million Natural Gas Investment in Southwest Region

Pipeline expansion project expected to create 7,000 good-paying jobs, encourage economic development and support province’s leading greenhouse industry

July 19, 2024

CHATHAM – The Ontario government is welcoming the start of construction by Enbridge Gas on its $358 million Panhandle Regional Expansion Project. The project is expected to secure approximately 7,000 jobs, enable $4.5 billion of investment opportunities in the province and support Ontario’s expansion of reliable, affordable and cleaner energy to power its growing economy.

“Our government is continuing to secure the reliable and affordable energy that is critical to our plan to rebuild Ontario’s economy, keep costs down for families and build homes across the province,” said Premier Doug Ford. “This project will help deliver that reliable energy supply and, in the process, create good-paying jobs, support our world-leading greenhouse sector and power Ontario’s economic growth for many years to come.”

Governments Expanding Mental Health Supports for Farm Workers

Canada and Ontario now offering the Farmer Wellness Initiative to agricultural workers in the province

July 22, 2024

TORONTO – The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $538,000 through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) to expand the Farmer Wellness Initiative to Ontario farm workers. Of that total, nearly $178,000 will be dedicated to supporting the delivery of services in Spanish.

Delivered by Agriculture Wellness Ontario, a suite of free programming managed by the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario Division, the Farmer Wellness Initiative provides farmers, farm workers and their family members in Ontario with unlimited access to a free, 24/7 phone line that connects them to tailored mental health counselling. Earlier this year, the line expanded to include farm workers, and now the expansion includes the delivery of mental health services in Spanish to better serve international agricultural workers.

SARNIA, July 18, 2024 – The Sarnia Lambton Immigration Task Force continues to focus on its mission to strengthen and diversify the community through immigration.

Led by a 35-member Steering Committee comprised of local leaders, industry representatives, and individuals with lived experience, Task Force members say they continue to see the positive impacts of the work being implemented via its four Action Groups.

Established by the Task Force last year, each Action Group focuses on a strategic action plan specific to a sector integral to immigration. These groups have been actively engaged in collaboration with regional employers, institutions, organizations, and community services for the past year. Read more of the Strategic Plan here:
