Chamber Advocacy at Work Letter To Council

As a proud advocate for Sarnia-Lambton’s business community, the Chamber is committed to fostering strong economic and cultural ties with our neighbors. A recent proposal to remove American flags from municipal buildings has sparked discussion, and while we fully support standing up for Canadian interests, we believe this action could send an unintended message that undermines the longstanding partnership between Canada and the United States.

Our ties with the U.S. go beyond politics—they are built on history, trade, and shared values. Many local businesses depend on cross-border relationships, and maintaining goodwill is essential for continued prosperity. Instead of symbolic gestures that risk division, we encourage solutions that strengthen collaboration and mutual respect.

Read on for more details about our position and how we can work together to celebrate our shared history while advocating for our community’s best interests.
